About Us

Rooted in Maine's Fishing Heritage

Little Salty Rope Co. is a family-owned small business based in the island community of Deer Isle, Maine. Our connection to lobster rope began long before we started weaving doormats and baskets. We come from generations of fishermen who spent their working lives on the water, using this same type of hardworking rope to haul traps along the Maine coast.

We knew firsthand what this material was made to withstand - saltwater, changing weather, hard use, and season after season on the ocean. When we began looking for a better material for an outdoor doormat, lobster rope was a natural choice.

Today, that connection to Maine's fishing heritage is still woven into everything we make.

Woven by Hand, One at a Time

Every doormat and basket is woven by hand, one at a time, in our Maine workshop. It’s a hands-on process that takes skill, attention to detail, and a familiarity with the rope that comes from working with it every day.

That hands-on craftsmanship is an important part of what makes each piece ours. From choosing the colors to weaving and finishing each piece, we make products meant to be used, enjoyed, and part of your home for years to come.

Made for Everyday Life

We believe practical products don't have to be boring. Our doormats and baskets are made with marine-grade polypropylene rope chosen for the kind of everyday use real homes bring — wet shoes, muddy paws, changing weather, busy entryways, and everything in between.

They're easy to clean, quick to drain and dry, and available in colors ranging from quiet neutrals to bright coastal combinations. Our goal is simple: make something hardworking enough for everyday life and beautiful enough that you're happy to have it at your front door or in your home.”
